Do You Need an Offshore Safe Deposit Box?

Do You Need an Offshore Safe Deposit Box?

Are you thinking of buying and storing physical gold bullion in a secure offshore location? Are you looking for a secure storage solution for confidential documents? In either case, and many others, a secure offshore safe deposit facility is a useful asset   ข่าวมวย

   to any freedom-oriented individual.

The good news is that most Austrian offshore banks or Swiss banks will be happy to rent you a safe deposit box, regardless of your passport. The bad news is that you need your passport! The famed Austrian and Swiss anonymous numbered bank accounts now only exist in the movies. Swiss banks usually want you to have an account from which they will deduct the annual box rental fee. Costs start at around 65 euro ($90) per year for a small box.

Just about every bank in Austria or Switzerland also sells gold bullion coins. Purchases up to around CHF 25,000 do not require ID in Swiss banks. Consider buying gold coins like the Austrian ‘Philharmonic’ a one ounce Austrian gold coin, similar to the American Eagle, Krugerrand or Maple Leaf.

Austrian and Swiss law prohibits banks from opening your safe deposit box unless they are sure you are dead! Austria is one of the only countries in the world with this protection. I have been in Safety Deposit vaults in France and the USA where it seems half the boxes have stick-on government seals on them due to tax investigations, lawsuits, or creditor claims. Those seals mean that the owner can’t get into his box, and it is scheduled to be drilled open for inspection if the owner doesn’t show up for an appointment with “the authorities.” When choosing a location for your safety deposit box, be sure you consider these details as it could make a huge impact on your entire asset protection strategy.

What is the Basic Difference Between Music Production and Sound Engineering?

What is the Basic Difference Between Music Production and Sound Engineering?

Music production involves creating the music from scratch and sound engineering involves mixing the different instruments Sample Sound Music together so it sounds nice.

I will reveal both aspects as they relate to D.J.’ing but more so on the production side.

For most established D.J.’s, meaning those who have been D.J.’ing for a while whether it is in their bedroom or in the club, music production is the next logical step. Because D.J.’s play so many different types of music they come across a lot of beats and sounds. This inspires some D.J.’s to sample those beats and sounds and make up their own songs.

This is the beginning of the music production stage. There are 3 stages to music production: pre-production, music production and postproduction.

Stage 1 Pre-production

The music production stage is the crafting of the new song. I call this the pre- production stage because you are just experimenting with music. This is where music from the record or mp3 is sampled using a sampler or drum machine like an Akai MPC. But before you can sample and produce music you have to make sure your gear is properly connected:

So that I can sample sounds into my Akai drum machine I have my Technics turntable going into the phono input of my stereo unit. Then I take the phono out of my stereo unit to the input of my MPC 3000. My MPC gets connected to my Akai DPS 24.Then the DSP 24 is connected to the CD input of the stereo unit so I can hear what I produce.

In order to sample I have to make sure I select the phono option on my stereo unit. After I sample the sounds I have to switch to the CD option on my stereo unit so I can hear the playback from the drum machine. Once you’ve completed your musical arrangement and saved all of your work and you are satisfied with it you can move into the part two of the pre-production phase.

During this phase is when you bring in artists to perform on you track. This is where you begin to rearrange the track or music you created with the artists. This collaboration period enables you and the artists to make minor adjustments to the music and the lyrics. You may also add to or take away parts of the track such as adding additional drums or strings. The artists will practice their song using your track. Once this is very tight you move to the studio to lay the music and the vocals on separate recording tracks. The reason why you want to practice before you get to the studio is because studio time is very expensive and you don’t want to waste time practicing in. That is where you need to focus all of your time making sure the music and vocals are recorded cleanly without pops and clicks.

Stage 2 Music Production

When you get to the studio this is where the sound engineer comes into play. This person is responsible for making sure all of you music sounds excellent. These people have years of experience. Some D.J./Producers also like to engineer their own music because they know how they want their music to sound. If this is the case then the sound engineer simply assists the D.J. with mixing the music and using the studio equipment.

The mixing part of the music production phase is done in the studio where all of the music tracks and vocal tracks are blended together to give you what you hear on your CD.

Each musical instrument and vocal track is mixed and adjusted using what is called a mixing board like my Akai DPS24 only larger or software based mixing console like Pro Tools.

Stage 3 Postproduction

After the mixing is done the postproduction process begins. The final mix is taken to what is called a Mastering Studio where specialized equipment is used to bring out the best possible sound. When this process is completed the final results of the song are then pressed on CD or vinyl and sold to the customer.

Saving Money Without a Coupon in Sight

Saving Money Without a Coupon in Sight

Everyone loves saving money and it’s more important now than ever that we use our money wisely. Just because your on a tight budget does not mean you have to spend time cutting priceline coupon codes out coupons or cut out shopping. So forget about the coupons, forget about going to the department store, and forget about paying full price the next time you want a vacation. Now is the time to become a bargain hunter. It’s a fun way to shop that pays off in a really big way.

Here are my top 10 ways to bargain shop:

1. Freecycle. Why pay money for something if you can get it for FREE! Freecycle is an amazing free community resource for getting and receiving items. You find a local freecycle group in your own community and you sign up to receive emails. Local members put posts offering free stuff or asking for free stuff. According to their site ” The Freecycle Network(TM) is made up of 4,780 groups with 7,127,000 members across the globe. It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It’s all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them’s good people). Membership is free.” Some of the items I have received for FREE from freecycle are a wooden playground set that came with 2 swings and a spiral slide, a chest freezer, a couch, and various smaller things. I have also given away boxes of home-school books, clothing, desks, chairs, and a couch.

2. Garage Sales. If you have the time there is no better way to find great deals than at garage sales. I have been able to find some amazing deals this summer. My three year old son has all name brand clothes and they were all bought for 1.00 or less at garage sales. Ladies you can find all your work clothes, jewelery, shoes, and purses at garage sales. If your having a baby there is no better way to get all the baby equipment and baby clothes. You can find furniture for your house, kitchen items, baby things, clothes for your entire family, toys, sporting goods, and everything else you could possibly think of. This is by far a bargain hunters paradise. My most recent bargains were a living room rug for $10.00 which normally would sell for over $100.00 and 4 pairs of Aeropostale cargo shorts for my teenage son for 1.00 each. I go to an average of six garage sales per weekend during the summer. Check your local paper or Craigslist for ads or you can just take a drive and look for signs.

3. Thrift Stores. If you don’t have time for garage sales then thrift shopping is the next best thing. Check out the yellow pages and find your local thrift stores. Target donates a lot of clothing to our local charity thrift store which means I can get brand new clothing for my children at super cheap prices. I have bought shorts for my husband for 1.00, dresses for my girls for 1.99, and shoes for 2.50. You could buy all your dishes, glasses, and silverware at a thrift store for the price of one set of dishes at a department store. If you like reading why pay $5.99 for a paper back when you can buy it at the thrift Store for 99 cents. Just about everything you could want for yourself or your home can be found at a thrift store.

4. Craigslist. Craigslist is a free on line site that allows you to sell and buy from people in your local community. I have bought cloth diapers, a baby car seat, beds, bedding, a swimming pool, and other furniture all on Craigslist. I make it a habit of looking on Craigslist everyday after checking my email. Just make sure you are dealing with a local seller and use common sense when meeting to pay for and pick up your item.

5. eBay. I only use eBay in the winter when the garage sales are gone. If you are patient and disciplined you can find whatever you want for the price you want. I have done a lot of Christmas shopping on eBay! My favorite things to buy on eBay are electronics like cameras and accessories, dolls and doll clothes for my little girls, and of course clothing.

6. Store Brands. Every grocery store and places like Target have their own store brand products that are quite a bit cheaper than the name brand products. Most of the time the off brands are just as good but cost less. It may take some experimenting to find out which store brand products you like. For instance Target sells an off brand diaper that I think is comparable to the name brand but is $3.00 cheaper. I will buy their diapers but not their wipes. For me nothing can beat Huggies wipes so I stick with the name brand on wipes. I don’t like store brand macaroni and cheese but I will buy store brand frozen vegetables. Become your own product tester and find out which store brands meet your standards. You may be surprised at how many items you can save money on buy switching brands.

8 Effective Natural Home Remedies For Snoring

8 Effective Natural Home Remedies For Snoring

Snoring can affect anyone including children. However studies show that it is prevalent in men and people who are affected by some of the factors we are now going to discuss. As one ages, the chance of snoring also increases. Here are some of these factors that    Home Remedies for Scabies   can cause your snoring:

Allergies – if you suffer from an allergy, know that it is possible that it could be the cause of your snoring. An allergy can clog your airways and the trachea, which then reduces the airflow. As air forces its way against the tissues in the air passage, it vibrates and it is that vibratory sound that is known as snoring.

Cold and flu – like allergies, they can also clog the airway. This is why some people will experience snoring only when they are suffering from a cold or flu.

Diet – you should be aware that certain types of diet can actually aggravate your snoring. Here is an example – dairy products. Certain types of food does produce mucus, which tends to cause congestion, restricting your air passage.

So those are just some of the factors that could be responsible for the cause of your snoring. At this stage you are probably asking yourself how you are going to stop snoring. If you looking for a solution then be assured that I am now going to show you 8 effective home remedies for snoring.

As discussed earlier, cold or flu can cause or even aggravate your snoring. One of the best remedies for getting rid of your cold or flu is by inhaling hot steam. Boil water and pour it into a bucket. Cover your head over the bucket and inhale the hot steam.

Not only is alcohol bad for your health, it is also counter- productive if you snore. The best remedy is therefore not to drink alcohol at least within the last four hours before you retire to sleep at night.

The position in which you sleep can also affect your snoring. Instead of lying on your back while you are asleep, the best advice or remedy is that you sleep on your side. Sleeping on your side will help to open up your airways, allowing good airflow and also stop your snoring.

If you are taking sleeping pills or medications that induce sleep, then you need to stop taking them now as they may be the cause of your snoring.

Do not eat or drink anything that contains dairy products nearer your bedtime. These products can cause mucus to accumulate in your throat and make you snore.

If you are overweight, then it is important to take steps that can help you to lose weight. If you are overweight, it does aggravate your snoring.

Let’s look at herbal remedies. They are effective. Soak two leaves of eucalyptus in boiling water for few minutes. Then drink it as you would drink tea. Eucalyptus will clear your airways and can stop you from snoring.

Wear nasal strips before you go to bed. They are not expensive and can stop your snoring.

Bitcoin: All It’s Hyped Up to Be?

Bitcoin: All It’s Hyped Up to Be?

Had you spent $27 on Bitcoin when it was created by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009 your investment would now be worth over $37,000,000.

Widely regarded as the greatest investment vehicle of all time, Bitcoin has seen a meteoric rise during 2017    Bitcoin to western union  going from $777 all the way to $17,000.

Creating millionaires out of opportunistic investors and leaving financial institutions open-mouthed, Bitcoin has answered its critics at every milestone this year and some believe this is just the beginning.

The launch of Bitcoin futures on December 10th, which for the first time will allow investors to enter the Bitcoin market through a major regulated US exchange, implies that we are just getting started.

What makes Bitcoin so valuable is that there is a finite amount in existence. There will only ever be a maximum of 21 million Bitcoins and unlike normal fiat currencies you can’t just print more of them whenever you feel like. This is because Bitcoin runs on a proof of work protocol: in order to create it, you have to mine it using computer processing power to solve complex algorithms on the Bitcoin blockchain. Once this is achieved, you are rewarded with Bitcoin as payment for the “work” you have done. Unfortunately the reward you get for mining has decreased drastically almost every year since Bitcoin’s inception, which means that for most people the only viable way to get Bitcoin is buying it on an exchange. At the current price levels is that a risk worth taking?

Many believe Bitcoin is simply a bubble. I spoke to cryptocurrency expert and long term investor Duke Randal who thinks the asset is overvalued, “I would compare this to many supply and demand bubbles over history such as Dutch Tulip Mania and the dot com bubble of the late 90s. Prices are purely speculation based, and when you look at Bitcoin’s functionality as an actual currency it is almost embarrassing.” For those who don’t know, the dot com bubble was a period between 1997-2001 where many internet companies were founded and given outrageously optimistic valuations based purely on speculation that later plummeted 80-90% as the bubble began to collapse in the early 2000s. Some companies such as eBay and Amazon, recovered and now sit far above those valuations but for others it was the end of the line.

Bitcoin was originally created in order to take power away from our financial systems and put people in control of their own money, cutting out the middle man and enabling peer to peer transactions. However, it is now one of the slowest cryptocurrencies on the market, its transaction speed is four times slower than the fifth biggest cryptocurrency and its nearest competitor for payment solutions Litecoin. Untraceable privacy coin Monero makes transactions even quicker, boasting an average block time of just two minutes, a fifth of the time Bitcoin can do it in, and that’s without anonymity. The world’s second biggest cryptocurrency, Ethereum, already has a higher transaction volume than Bitcoin despite being valued at only $676 dollars per Ether compared to Bitcoin’s $16,726 per Bitcoin.

So why is Bitcoin’s value so high? I asked Duke Randal the same question. “It all goes back to the same supply and demand economics, relatively there is not very much Bitcoin available and its recent surge in price has attracted a lot of media attention, this combined with the launch of Bitcoin futures which many see as the first sign Bitcoin is being accepted by the mass market, has resulted in a lot of people jumping on the bandwagon for financial gain. Like any asset, when there is a higher demand to buy than to sell, the price goes up. This is bad because these new investors are entering the market without understanding blockchain and the underlying principles of these currencies meaning they are likely to get burnt”.

Another reason is that Bitcoin is extremely volatile, it has been known to swing up or down thousands of dollars in less than a minute which if you are not used to nor expecting it, causes less experienced investors to panic sell, resulting in a loss. This is yet another reason Bitcoin will struggle to be adopted as a form of payment. The Bitcoin price can move substantially between the time vendors accept Bitcoin from customers and sell it on to exchanges for their local currency. This erratic movement can wipe out their entire profitability. Will this instability go away any time soon? Not likely: Bitcoin is a relatively new asset class and although awareness is increasing, only a very small percentage of the world’s population hold Bitcoin. Until it becomes more widely distributed and its liquidity improves significantly, the volatility will continue.

So if Bitcoin is pretty useless as an actual currency, what are its applications? Many believe Bitcoin has moved on from being a viable form of payment to becoming a store of value. Bitcoin is like “digital gold” and will simply be used as a benchmark for other cryptocurrencies and blockchain projects to be measured against and traded for. Recently there have been stories of people in high inflation countries such as Zimbabwe buying Bitcoin in order to hold on to what wealth they have rather than see its value decline under the recklessness of its central banking system.

The Five Image File Types You Need to Know to Design Websites

The Five Image File Types You Need to Know to Design Websites

The speed at which a website loads is a factor in search engine optimization that is growing in importance. Consumers do not want svgs

to wait even longer than a few seconds for a website to finish loading so that they can browse it. One of the main factors in how quickly or slowly a website loads is the number, type, and size of the pictures included on each page.

Deciding on what type of image to use for a new page or blog post can be especially difficult for the average small business owner or blogger. However, it is also important to use the correct types of images so that they do not slow down the speed of the site overall and negatively impact readers’ experiences on the site. There are five image formats that we will look at in this article.

The first is the .bmp file, also known as a Bitmap. These images are a Microsoft Windows file format. Because of the large number of people that use Internet Explorer and Microsoft Windows, .bmp files are scattered throughout the web. They are good for displaying photos with a lot of detail, as they support 16.7 million colors. The downside is that they end up as very large files sometimes, and there are better alternatives available.

For photographs, a .jpg file may be more appropriate. In fact, .jpg (or .jpeg) files are a compression format, with the actual image a .jfif file. These types of files also support 16.7 million colors, although they do it in a smaller file format than a bitmap. However, the downside to this type of file is that compressing the image may cause it to drop in quality, especially if the same .jpg is compressed and saved over and over again.

For many images such as logos, a.gif file is probably the best choice. These use lossless compression, which means that the image quality does not suffer when compressed. On the other hand, only 256 colors are supported, meaning that more detailed images will be degraded. Thus, simple images like website brands or logos can be saved as .gif files, which result in small file sizes and no reduction in quality. More detailed images should use a different format. One additional use for .gif files is to create moving images.

The .png file is an open-source that seems to be replacing .gif files in terms of small size and brands, as it is one of the best file types for web use. It supports 16.7 million colors, and 8-bit transparency. The main drawback is that large images will end up as a larger file size with .png than with .jpg files, and some older browsers do not support .png files.

The final image size we’ll look at is .svg, also known as Scalable Vector Graphics. This allows users to create graphics directly through code, and shapes can be defined such as circles 150×150 pixels in size, with borders and fill colors. These files can also be scripted with Javascript, or marked up through the use of CSS. They also result in smaller file sizes than other formats, although they can also be more complicated, and they are not supported in all internet browsers.

Thus, each file format has its users. For images, a .jpg file is most appropriate. For company logos, the .png is becoming more and more popular, especially with its transparency uses. Small moving images are often much simpler with a .gif file, rather than creating a video.

Fun and Inexpensive Christmas and Birthday Party Game Ideas for Kids and Adults

Fun and Inexpensive Christmas and Birthday Party Game Ideas for Kids and Adults

For entertaining adult friends and family, young children through teens, whether at home or in classrooms, and to liven up Christmas day or birthday parties or make hunting down and  opening presents on Christmas Eve even more enjoyable, even on a shoestring in a tough economy, try an exciting and interactive:

– OLD FASHIONED “BIBLE BASEBALL” GAME perfect for Christian Youth.

Don’t forget to have your camera or video recorder ready to capture all the action!

1. CLUE-SOLVING TREASURE HUNTS. Treasure hunt party games, which kids of all ages LOVE, have been around for some time, but most commercially available ones don’t have very fun or imaginative clues, and often only contain very simple statements that require little creativity regarding where to look for hidden objects more akin to a basic scavenger hunt.

You can make your own Christmas-themed treasure hunt clue game for any age (or for any birthday or other holiday event) by creating riddles or rhymes yourself as we explain below, or save time and effort by purchasing a pre-made inexpensive “print n play” treasure hunt game online for less than $10 that comes with custom clues already prepared, a hiding guide and instructions on how to play individually or as teams, and party ideas all ready to download, print, and play instantly at Treasure-Adventure dotcom.

But if you’re crafty, have a little time, and want to save even more money, you can do it entirely yourself (DIY) and make your own simple treasure hunt game by creating 10 clues suitable for the age of the players on pieces of stiff paper that each lead to a specific location where the next clue is hidden. For example, a children’s Christmas clue where the answer is “stocking” might read:

“You’re getting warm, No time to spare, Look for what’s been stuffed and hung with care”

Therefore, the next clue would be found in the stocking. Keep the first clue out that you will read aloud when you start the game, and hide the rest so that each clue when solved leads to the next one until the final clue is solved and the “treasure” is located which might consist of seasonal candy or cookies, gift certificates, toy gadgets, school supplies, or any number of fun prizes.

Optionally, the host might also want to place small themed gift items at each individual clue location, with the last hiding place containing the ultimate prize, or in lieu of small prizes if they’re difficult to hide at each clue location, use numbered hand-made tickets to accompany the clues that each correspond to a wrapped numbered present that can be claimed when the hunt is over.

Before the guests arrive, do a test run without the players present to make sure the clues and prizes are all hidden well where they won’t be disturbed and in the right order because this can be a little confusing if you’re new to treasure hunting, but becomes much easier once you’ve already completed your first treasure hunt successfully.

Just remember clues are not allowed to be solved out of order, all must be solved to win, and if not working as a team but competing, players will need to keep track of the clues they solved on a piece of paper and not remove the hidden clues after they find them so others can still play (it is recommended that young children play as one grouped team that is not competing).

Also, if you want to ensure everyone gets something, especially in the case of children, have the entire group either get participation gifts or share the final “pot” at the end by making it something that can be split up or enjoyed by all. This can vary, from cupcakes to noisemakers, snow globes, to other small toys – the sky’s the limit!

At the start of the treasure hunt explain the rules of how to play the game, what area the search is limited to (such as downstairs only), and read the first clue to start the hunt. Young children may need some guidance, or their clues can be pictures rather than words. That’s basically all there is to it!

Besides Christmas, you can also make treasure hunts of varying levels of difficulty themed for any occasion or situation from princess parties to pirate parties, for fundraisers, outdoors or in the classroom, and can be for any age from teens to college students to seniors at class and family reunions.

Again, if you want to learn more or save yourself the hassle by purchasing ready-to-play printable treasure hunt games online at a low cost, visit Treasure-Adventure online.

“Now its time to play, with a little wit, your treasure hunt adventure will surely be a hit!”

2. BINGO GIFT EXCHANGE. There’s a new holiday spin on the traditional game of Bingo, and for kids this can additionally be an opportunity to participate in a fun personalized Christmas art activity.

In “Santa Bingo,” cards with graphical Christmas themed pictures or words can each be drawn by hand or generated and printed on stiff paper for free online at web sites such as dltk-cards (which also offers the printable callout cards and markers used to play Bingo).

Bingo cards vary in size, but typically are either 3 x 3 with 9 squares for younger children, or 5 x 5 with 25 squares for older kids and adults, where the center square is automatically filled in as a free space (with Santa’s face in “Santa Bingo”). The game is not limited to Christmas, but can be modified to be themed for any holiday or birthday.

Each child should be encouraged to color in or decorate their card (and optionally have it laminated) before starting or after finishing the game, and can take it home as a keepsake or memento to remember their special day. Christmas picture ideas might include a Reindeer, snowman, stocking, elf, candy cane, milk and cookies, a star, a Christmas tree, a wreath, holly, a candle, an angel, bells, bulbs, gifts, a sleigh, a manger, the North Pole, a gingerbread man, and others.

Keeping in mind a Christmas theme, a good choice of Bingo markers might be peppermint candies, NECCO wafers, or thin mints that can be eaten and enjoyed when the game is over (for other occasions such as Valentine’s Day, for example, large heart candies might be used as markers).

Each playing card should have randomly arranged themed pictures or words that do not repeat taken from the callout card which includes ALL the graphics to be used in the game – the online generator can do this for you as well for free or you can draw or paste the graphics yourself. You will need to print two identical callout card sheets & cut one of them up into individual pieces to place in a hat or bag for the host to randomly pick from during game play. These also can be colored in with bright crayons or markers or printed with a color printer.

Players should either be asked in advance to bring a wrapped gift to exchange that cost under a specified value (suitable for their own gender if all presents are not gender-neutral), labeled with their name to ensure they don’t get their own gift and to identify the type of gift, or the host can use “Bingo” as a fun way to distribute to guests small wrapped presents or prizes they have purchased; again wrapped gifts should indicate male or female prizes if not gender-neutral or if it might be a factor.

When you’re ready to start the game, the players should be arranged in a circle with the gifts all placed in the middle, cards and markers should be handed out, and the host with the callout card should explain how to play, including the requirement that the entire card (except the center) be filled in before the player yells out “Santa!” (or any other word designated depending on the occasion, which you also might want to have printed at the top of each playing card).

The host should draw, announce, and show to players one game piece at a time and then place it on the callout card. Those who have the graphic or word called should place a marker in the matching spot on their Bingo game card. When the first player fills his or her card and yells “Santa!,” and the host confirms they have correctly filled their entire card, that player may then select an appropriate gift of their choice and immediately leave the game.

Entering Art Competitions – Nine Tips to Making Your Experience Rewarding

When you are ready to enter your artwork in local art competitions, here are nine art tips that can help make this a great experience.

Art Competition Jurors

One of the favorite pastimes of entrants is trying to predict the kind of artwork a particular juror will accept, based on that juror’s painting style. Sometimes picking your entries in this way works and you get in, but I’ve also seen jurors choose an eclectic mix of styles    art   and subjects, only some of which were like their own.

Art Tip # 1 – My advice is just enter your best work – art that shows skillful use of your painting medium, a well-designed composition and an image that shows creativity. These are three important criteria of most jurors.

When you enter your best artwork, you are showing your strengths. After that, it is up to the juror and his or her viewpoint. And you’ll just have to accept the vagaries of the judging process. As a more extreme example of what can happen, I once had the same juror for two different shows. I entered the same painting in both art competitions and the juror rejected it from the first show and gave it an award in the later one. A nationally known artist told me a similar story about a painting of his. It was rejected from one national show and won Best of Show in another. I’m pretty sure he didn’t have my juror.

Photographing Your Art

Art Tip # 2 – The second most important factor you control, after painting a great piece of art, is taking a good photograph of it. This is what the juror sees to judge your art; it needs to represent you well.

The picture should, of course, be in focus and show colors that closely match your art, so become proficient at shooting your own work or find a professional to do it.

What people who take pictures of their own art may not realize is the lighting conditions affect the color of your picture. Just like the old film cameras, shooting pictures with a digital camera using incandescent light bulbs will turn your picture more orange. Using fluorescent lights can turn the pictures greenish. Shooting outside when the sky is overcast can create a bluish tint, so look at your pictures closely before entering them.

A lot of people make the mistake of leaving their digital camera set on Automatic. To get the color in your picture to match your artwork, you need to understand how to set the White Balance. Every time you shoot under different lighting conditions you should reset the White Balance. Check your manual for how to do this on your camera.

Another award and entry killer is not submitting your entry in the required format with the required information. Always read the art contest prospectus. It’s amazing how many people don’t follow instructions, which instantly converts their entry fee into a donation.

Art Tip # 3 – Film is going away, so my advice is to become familiar with how to prepare and send digital pictures.

Art competitions that require digital entries often want your pictures to be formatted in a specific way. The prospectus will often say your entry should have a black background and be X number of pixels square. If you don’t want to buy software (like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements) that will help you do that, there are free internet sites you can also use to format your pictures.

Framing your art

Okay, you’ve been accepted into an art competition. There is another important decision to make. How well are you going to frame your work?

Art Tip # 4 – Often, the juror doesn’t pick the award-winning art until he or she can see the actual work. Your whole presentation affects that decision.

Matting and framing your art well are very important for two reasons.

Reason 1: If you have a nice piece of art surrounded by a cheap-looking frame or a frame that’s scratched or dented, you’ve just reduced the award-worthiness of your work in the eyes of the juror.

If you also have your art surrounded by gaudy or inappropriately colored mats, you’ve lowered your chances of an award even further. It’s best to be conservative. Use white or off-white mats.
